Working with the Research Network

Submitting & Receiving Requests

Submitting a Request by Phone - (518) 944-2859:

We actually prefer this method. We can readily ask questions to clarify your client’s needs, suggest other research avenues, give you a good idea of what is obtainable, and what work-arounds we’ll need to use.

Submitting a Request via WebMQS:

Click the “Submit RN Request” link (or “Submit a RN Request for this case” after creating a new case).

Case Number – When we finish a request, WebMQS automatically sends an email to whoever is listed in the “Send Response To” field. WebMQS also enters the texts of the request and our response into the case narrative, as well as our prep hours. All of this depends on you entering a case number here.

However, the Research Network also does research for internal center requests that are not affiliated with one specific client. For these, click the “Not Associated With a Case”.

Subject – Keep this brief, but specific enough that you can readily identify it.

Text Box – If it’s more expedient to copy and paste a client’s email request, please add your own commentary. Context is critical when it comes to research. You know your client better than us, so give us some background.

Also, it’s best to avoid very long requests – it can be overwhelming to clients to process all that we’ll send them (as well as for us to compile it). Request what you know your client can handle.

The request form also lets you attach any supporting documents that you feel may help us.

For additional technical information about using the Research Network sections of WebMQS, visit WebMQS Help Topics.

The Research Network imposes a limit on SBDC advisors to two requests per business day.

Receiving Your Information

Requests are answered in the order which we received them. Let us know if you need a response right away.

You can track the status of your requests in MQS via the “My RN Requests” link.  It also gives your request history. MQS gives you the option of archiving old requests.

In most cases, the completed research will added to a folder on Google Drive. MQS then sends you an email alert about the completed research. This email describes the contents, and a link to the location of the documents, and can be shared with your client.

It is very important that your MQS profile shows your preferred email address.
