Submit research request

Home » Research Network » Requests » Submit RN Request

You now have the ability to request research from the Research Network through MQS.  This is not designed to replace calling the Research Network.  Many research requests benefit from a conversation with one of the librarians.  In those cases where you might have emailed your request, we would ask you to submit your request through the MQS system instead.

When entering a research request you will be asked for several pieces of information.

Please provide a case number for each request.  If this request isn’t directly related to a client (i.e., information a center needs for a presentation etc.), click on the Not Associated With a Case box.

The subject line should include the type of business and/or the type of request. Examples of helpful subjects would be the following:

List of competitors for residential cleaning firm
Start up information for florist
Auto parts distribution market info

Use the question field to make your request.  A brief summary of the client’s business is always helpful, as is some basic rationale for the purpose of the request.  Whenever possible, please do not simply cut-and-paste questions provided by the client.  Details important to the research process are sometimes not provided, resulting either in a response that is lacking, or needless delays caused by getting the finer details.  Also, take into consideration the client’s ability to process the information once it’s provided.  If the client asks for a large amount of information, then the client will get an overwhelming amount of information in reply.

Use the Special Instructions when you have a special message for the researcher.  This is a good place to indicate if this request is time sensitive.

If you have any files that would help us answer this request (client documents, illustrations, lists etc.) you may upload them in the Upload File box.

If your request is associated with a case, you can also record your clerical time for making the request at the bottom of the form.

Once submitted, the request will be listed on the My RN Requests page, where you can track its status.

Once a research request has been completed, it will be available on the My RN Requests page. You will be sent an email at that time as well. The email may be forwarded to your client, and contains a link to access research documents. The contents of your request and the email response are added to the client’s case record in within WebMQS.

The My RN Requests list is sortable by clicking on the column headers. You can remove items from the list by checking the box in the Archive column and clicking Move Selected to Archive. From then on, the request will be available on the My Request Archive page.
